No Women, No Kids

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it, there is nothing more satisfying than doing what you love. The founder of the craft beer Samuel Adams quoted Confucius one time saying

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

I live by these words. Sometimes artists think that designing shirts that appeal to the masses will make them better designers. They think it’s the only way they’ll get noticed. I don’t believe that. Sometimes we need to create new things to let people know there is a lot of uncharted territory out there. And maybe by doing so, we can start a new trend, and eventually get noticed by being original. That is why I always try to create designs of things I personally love, it doesn’t matter if it is popular at the moment or not. Sure, I’ve done commissions of things I know nothing about. But that is not the rule of thumb in my work. And of course, I study the subject before starting my design. But, when it comes to self motivated designs, I stay on what I know, and most important, on what I love. If we don’t care about what we are designing, how can we expect others to do so?

That is why this week I went back to 1994 to make a design about one of my favorite movies of all times. To me, this will be one of the classics of the 90’s. I’m talking about the movie “Léon: The Professional”. Both main characters left a big impact on me when I was barely 14 years old. Not to mention that it was my introduction to that great actor, Gary Oldman. I remember watching this movie every time it was on Cinemax back in the day. It was a movie my whole family enjoyed.

Well, I should probably stop writing now and ask you for your votes this week. Hope you like my design, as much as I liked watching that movie.
