Make Him Famous…

Make Him Famous

If this design wins, I pledge to donate $500 to the “Invisible Children” movement.

One week ago, we were given a preview of the theme for the next derby. That same day I came up with a really cool idea for my design. An idea I believed was going to be a big hit if I was able to execute it well. I was planning to start my design this past Wednesday. But something happened on Tuesday that changed my mind completely about what I wanted to design.

I stumbled upon a very unique video on my Facebook News Feed that night. A short documentary called “Kony 2012”. Like the 99.9% of the people that have their minds set on mundane stuff, I wasn’t aware of this sad and very serious situation happening in some places of the world, like Uganda. I won’t enter in details about what this documentary is all about. If you haven’t seen it, PLEASE, take 30 minutes of your time and watch it.

The person / organization that produce this video is asking everyone to take some kind of action to end this atrocity. And that’s exactly what I am trying to do here. I am a graphic designer, who found a way to express myself through my designs. I wanted to do my part on this worldwide operation, that is why my design is about “Making Him Famous”…

But it doesn’t end there. If this design wins, I pledge to donate $500 to the “Invisible Children” movement. You read it right, five-double zero. The donation would be made in the name of the whole “Shirt Designers and Voters Community”. If you vote for this design, please, write your name and location on the thread (optional), so I can make a list of names and send it with the money. Let’s show the world that there are things that can be done. Take action beyond “sharing” a video. We can make the difference.

But, what if your design doesn’t win, you ask? I’ll still make a $50 donation from my own money, in the name of the the whole community.

The timing is perfect, the day the organization is planning for everybody to take action is April 20th. Plenty of time to have your shirt delivered to you and use it that day. The donation would be made as soon as the payment is received, around April 15th. If you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions, please leave a note here or send me an email.

Thanks. Please share!

  1. # 1 I LOVE your top bar comment on art – never finished, only abandoned. Fantastic.

    # 2 I think your T-shirt is great & hope it wins & $500 to the invisible children would be amazing. The only thing I’d say is that if I didn’t know about the Kony Make Him Famous, I wouldn’t have realised the T-shirt was about that mission. The artwork is just beautiful, however.

    Great page.

    • First, thanks for leaving a comment, the tag for my blog is a quote from Leonardo da Vinci.

About the design, every person that participates in the derbies @Shirt.Woot needs to follow certain rules that vary from derby to derby.
The rules this week were the following:

      • No text only designs. Your word has to be made of art. We don’t want a fancy font. • One color only. • One word only.

I understand your comment, but the shirt was designed this way because I had to follow the rules.

Thanks once again and keep commenting. I’ll love that!

      • Hey, thank you for explaining that. See, I had no idea there were rules about this!
Well, I compound my comment then that the design is great, catching – it IS, especially given the restrictions. 🙂

  2. You need to go to and see their recent posts about Invisible Children and who is paying them (basically the same people behind prop 8). Also check out their post with reactions from actual Ugandans.
I’m not calling you out, because your heart is obviously in the right place. You’ve been caught up in misguided fervor, and should really think hard before you start handing out money.
